CAMPAIGNERS have been left shocked after a grit bin was smashed and its contents spilt in a Leverington roadway.
Chrissie Brinton of Popes Lane, Leverington, who led a campaign to get grit bins put on along country lanes to help make them safer during icy conditions, said one of the bins had been wrecked overnight on Sunday.
“I don’t know how it happened, but it looks as if someone has run over it, or maybe yobs have tipped it up - although there would have to have been more than one person to do that as it contained half a tonne of grit,” said Mrs Brinton.
She and her fellow campaigners fought for two years to get the grit bins provided earlier this year.
“This is a real set back, I shall be reporting it to the parish council, which is responsible for providing the bins,” said Mrs Brinton, who is hoping someone may have heard or seen something to help discover how the bin came to be trashed.
She is hoping there might a chance of getting a replacement bin before the winter turns icy.
