The owner of a March restaurant was vowing to trade as normal – after a car went through his front window.

Shafik Ali arrived at The Shah Jahan early on Sunday morning to find a car embedded in the front of the Dartford Road restaurant.

Mr Ali says the car had damaged the window and an internal wall.

But he and his team were vowing to open up as normal on Sunday evening.

Speaking on Sunday he said: “We have cleared up the mess and have boarded up the window so we are ready to trade.

“We will not be closing, but running as normal.”

Mr Ali was alerted to the incident by a family member.

He said: “When I received the phone call, I could not believe it. I thought the incident had happened in the road, not the restaurant.

“I left my home and went to the restaurant and saw the car through the window.”

The car had been removed at 9am.

Mr Ali was hoping to claim for the damage via the car owner’s insurance.

He was waiting to receive quotes for the repair work from builders.

Police were called to the incident at 6.20am but the occupants of the vehicle had left the scene.

Officers had interviewed a 20-year-old woman in relation to taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, driving without a licence and insurance, and causing criminal damage.

She has not been arrested but has been reported for consideration of prosecution.
