FenCreators launches 15 weeks of free creative workshops in Chatteris, Wisbech, and Whittlesey
FenCreators, a programme of free creative workshops, launches this September in Chatteris, Wisbech, and Whittlesey.
Designed to combat loneliness and isolation, the programme brings a range of hands-on artistic experiences to local communities.
The FenCreators programme, run by local arts organisation MarketPlace, offers 15 weeks of inspiring workshops open to individuals aged 18 and above and caters to all skill levels, from complete beginners to enthusiasts.
The workshops are facilitated by professional artists Sean Dendere, Ann Bellamy, Debbie Munford, Emily Steele-Dias, and Louise and Simon Taggart from Blended Monkey.
Each of the artists brings their unique creative practices and a wide range of activities including sewing, filmmaking, pottery, and more, all designed to alleviate loneliness and social isolation while fostering a sense of community connection.
Each artist offers five weeks of workshops across Chatteris, Wisbech, and Whittlesey, which can be booked as a series or as standalone sessions.
All workshops are free and create a welcoming, sociable atmosphere that fosters new connections and creativity. By encouraging participants to engage in artistic activities alongside others, FenCreators provides a unique opportunity to build meaningful relationships and reduce feelings of isolation.
The programme's supportive environment allows individuals to work at their own pace, promoting mental well-being through creative expression.
FenCreators is more than the usual art workshop, says MarketPlace creative producer, Peggy Mends: "It's about bringing people together, nurturing creativity, and building stronger communities - all while having a go at something new. We're excited to see how this initiative will provide unique opportunities and enrich the lives of Fenland residents, especially those who might be feeling lonely."

The initiative emerged from a successful pilot of quilting workshops in Chatteris, responding to community requests. It is part of the Creative Lives Know Your Neighbourhood Project, funded by the UK Government and Arts Council England.
