An event which brought wartime tales to life has been hailed a success.

More than 100 people attended a Second World War victory celebration film event at the Emmanuel Church Hall in Chatteris.

Organised by the town’s Community Archive and funded by a county council grant, the event showed a newsreel of VE Day celebrations, along with some public information films of the time.

Pupils from Cromwell Community College also sang wartime songs and the school’s cookery club cooked and served recipes based on wartime rations.

A number of visitors and organisers dressed in a 1940s style.

Archive group chairman Julie Smith said: “We were quite taken aback by how popular the event turned out to be.”
