People in Chatteris were transported back to the 1940s during a celebration to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Chatteris Royal British Legion organised an afternoon tea and 1940s evening on Friday to mark the VE Day anniversary. More than 70 people went along to the afternoon event to sample a Victorian or wartime tea. The evening included a performance by Black Two and a marriage proposal. It ended with a service and the lighting of the town’s beacon. The two events have raised £600 for the town’s Poppy Appeal and Legion members are expecting a £4,000 shortfall after the closure of the town’s supermarkets.
