Chatteris county councillor Sandra Rylance dies

A Fenland representative on Cambridgeshire County Council has died, it has been announced.

Sandra Rylance, who represented the Chatteris division for UKIP, died on Wednesday. It is understood she had been ill for some time.

Mrs Rylance won the seat at the 2013 elections, beating her Conservative opponent Mark Buckton by just five votes.

During her time as a councillor she served on the authority’s health committee and was chairman of its adult social care committee.

Group leader Paul Bullen said a short time ago: “She was a lovely caring lady and will be sorely missed, not just by us but everybody at Cambridgeshire County Council and all the people of Chatteris.

“She was one of the good ones, she really was.”

Earlier, a statement on the Cambridgeshire County Council website said: “The Council is sad to announce the death of Councillor Sandra Rylance on 12th August 2015.

“Details of a by-election will be announced in due course.”
