Six local charities and organisations were the lucky recipients of extra funds when the Mayor of Chatteris, Coun James Carney, held a presentation evening on Thursday.

Cllr Carney gave away cheques totalling over £800. Most of the money was raised at his Mayor’s Charity Ball in February and he and his wife, Amy, thanked local businesses who had generously donated raffle prizes to boost the proceeds.

Representatives of the six local charities and organisations – Cambridgeshire Hearing Help, MAGPAS, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Chatteris Royal British Legion Youth Section, Chatteris In Bloom and Chatteris Midsummer Festival – attended the presentation event, held at the Council Chambers, to gratefully receive cheques.

Cllr Carney explained why he had chosen the particular charities. He then invited those present, which included fellow town councillors, to enjoy a buffet prepared by Amy.
