A plus size model put her mind to it for charity – and raised more than £1,000 with a sponsored head shave.

Sarah Doyle underwent the clippers in aid of mental health charity MIND as part of her work as Model XL Cambridgeshire.

The 40-year-old, from Chatteris, gained the title when she became one of 10 finalists in this year’s national Model XL Pageant.

As well as promoting self-confidence, finalists have to try and raise as much money and awareness of the pageant’s chosen charity as possible, ahead of the final in July.

Mrs Doyle said: “At Model XL it is the belief that having confidence in yourself is about your state of mind, so this charity is perfectly in harmony with what they want to achieve.

“During my reign as Model XL Cambridgeshire it is my intention to use my title to do whatever I can for this most worthy charity, who have helped, and are still helping. many people I have come to know and love in my life.”

Mrs Doyle, who is married to Mark and has a six-year-old daughter Angelica, underwent the head shave at Spike and Violet hair salon in March – and has had mixed reviews.

“Some people love it and think it really suits me, but my husband isn’t so keen!” she said. “My daughter likes it, but when I asked if she would do it, it was a definite ‘no’.

“I’m delighted with how much has been raised,” she added. “When I set my target at £1,000 I thought it was a little bit tough and was worried I wouldn’t make it, but I’m really, really pleased I did and am just so thankful to everyone who donated.”
