Cheers is the message from a Downham music shop to the customers who have helped him to raise more than £400 for a cancer charity.

Lawrence Welham, who owns Lewks, has given up alcohol for a month during the Go Sober for October challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Welham has raised £441.80 for the charity.

He said: “It is a fantastic amount and far more than I expected. The support from customers has been fantastic.

“Having been interested in charts since starting the record shop,

“I was interested to see that I am no 4 in the county on the charity’s fundraising website.

“With November 1 being a Sunday, it was nice to have a glass of wine with my meal.”

He took on the challenge in memory of his late wife Maureen along with other family members.
