On behalf of all at Wisbech Town Council I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Since May when I became Mayor it has been my great privilege to meet many wonderful people involved in all aspects of community life throughout Wisbech.

Their contributions, sometimes completely voluntary, out of view and often unsung go to make our town the remarkable place it is. 2012 has been an eventful year of which I mention only a few.

Wisbech held its first Arts Festival highlighting the rich artistic variety within our Fenland town and its wonderful architecture.

In June our own Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations were held on the newly acquired market place and culminated in the lighting of the Wisbech Jubilee Beacon. It was very successful and one of the best days Wisbech has enjoyed for a long time.

The spacious, modern buildings for the Thomas Clarkson Academy opened and heralded a much-needed new era and fresh start for our young people.

Wisbech in Bloom did particularly well in 2012 contributing so much to the appearance of our town and our tourist/visitor industry.

As Christmas Eve approaches we also look forward to the year about to unfold, a time of hope and anticipation.

To all the people of Wisbech both young and old, newcomers or well established, those alone or with family I wish you a very happy Christmas and all the good things you hope for in The New Year.
