St Matthew’s Church Sutton Bridge flower festival theme ‘through the ages’ reflects village’s history and raises £1,800

A flower festival that has been running for 50 years reflected its history ‘through the ages’ and raised £1,800 in funds.

Visitors to St Matthews Church in Sutton Bridge were treated to floral displays created by community groups and individuals depicting aspects of the village.

Colourful creations included the history of Westmere Community Primary School with an abacus, black and white photos and wording showing its transformation through the decades.

Eileen Preston, who organises the event alongside Mary Cousins, said: “We were pleased with the amount of people that attended and we are waiting for some more donations.

The church was reflected in a display celebrating all things bright and beautiful with a hymn book and wedding decorations.

A nod to the Todskill flour mill featured with a small four-sailed windmill on display as a reminder of the mill near Cross Keys Bridge.
