Church says farewell to Rector

WELL-wishers packed March St Peter’s Church recently to say a fond farewell to Rector the Rev Anthony Chandler who is retiring.

Mr Chandler has been Rector of both St Peter’s and St Mary’s since 2000, although his service to the church pre-dates his appointment.

There was a large congregation for Mr Chandler’s final service as Rector on Easter Sunday and there was also a special lunch in the church hall afterwards.

Over the last 12 years there have been many highlights, particularly including Mr Chandler’s mission and fundraising journey to Cambodia which raised £1,000s for good causes.

He has also served many years as chaplain to March’s Royal Naval Association, the Royal British Legion, 1220 Squadron Air Training Corps, the Army Cadets and the Scouts

At the end of the Easter service the Reverend Jenny Webb offered a prayer of thanksgiving for the years of service mr Chandler and his wife Helen had given to the church.

The celebration lunch was provided by members of the congregation.

Although Mr Chandler has retired as Rector of both St Peter’s and St Mary’s churches, he will remain as priest in charge at St Mary’s in order to steer through the remainder of the restoration work.
