The recruitment drive for Wisbech’s new Light Cinema has begun and could see several long-term unemployed people back in work.

A sector based work academy (SBWA) is currently running in Wisbech, with a group of Fenland people undergoing training that will get them one step closer to employment.

They were chosen by Jobcentre Plus to take part in the course and after completing it, they will be given a guaranteed interview for a position at the Light Cinema. Training includes a customer service qualification, food safety qualification and help with CV writing and interview techniques.

This recruitment technique worked well at the New Brighton branch of The Light, with several members of staff being recruited. One of them was senior operator Jamie Atherton, who has come to oversee the opening of the Wisbech cinema.

He said: “I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen so far and I’m hopeful we will secure some good staff.”

Phil Dove – Head of UK Operations at Light Cinemas, said: “We will be recruiting 30 FTE staff in total, and have been incredibly impressed with the standard of applications from the open recruitment process as well – which is now closed.

“We will be recruiting 20 Light Cinema staff from the SBWA application, and are very grateful to our partner in this process, Huntingdonshire Regional College.”
