Conclusion of Wisbech Una Crown murder case featured in BBC TV show
The conclusion of a decade-long murder-mystery involving a Wisbech pensioner was featured on a BBC programme this week.
Crimewatch Live featured the conclusion of the Una Crown case following the conviction and imprisonment of Wisbech man David Newton for the horrific killing of the 86-year-old former postmistress in January 2013.
Una’s murder was featured on Crimewatch in January 2023 – 10 years after the crime was committed - with Detective Superintendent Iain Moor of Cambridgeshire police’s major crime unit making an appeal for information to try to catch the killer.
Det Supt Moor, was a detective chief inspector at the time of the appeal and he emphasised the police’s belief that the answer to solving who killed Una was in the community.
On Monday night the programme featured the conclusion of the case and highlighted that on February 13 Newton, who lived in Magazine Close, Wisbech – just around the corner from the widow’s bungalow in Magazine Lane, was found guilty by a majority jury verdict.
Newton was handed life in prison with a minimum of 21 years for the murder.
