A GRADE II listed cottage in March that was gutted by fire 18 months ago is to be demolished next month.
Work is due to begin on October 1 to knock down 7 Nene Parade. The 250-year-old cottage was so badly damaged in the blaze in March 2011 that restoration is impossible.
Archaeologists and an engineer will be on site to supervise the demolition.
Councillor Jan French, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder responsible for conservation and renaissance, said: “People have been concerned about what was happening with the cottage because it is a listed building in a conservation area and it is some time since the fire.
“We are taking the appropriate steps to ensure that an unsightly building is removed. At some stage it will be replaced by something that retains the character of the area.”
