Cambridgeshire County Council says it took down flags in Wisbech

Cambridgeshire County Council says it is responsible for taking down some of the flags that have been adorning lampposts in Wisbech over recent weeks.

There has been much discussion on social media as to who had removed the Union and St George’s Cross flags.

In a statement to the Fenland Citizen, a council spokesman said: “Our highways team follow a standard process when things are placed on our highways.

“They are considered as damage or could be a safety issue so will be removed. We’ll continue to monitor the situation along with our partners.”
