Call for vigilance after latest oil theft from primary school

A village primary school has called for vigilance after its heating oil was stolen for the fourth time in 12 months.

Staff at Sutton St James Primary School discovered yesterday morning (Tuesday) that in excess of 3,000 litres of oil had been drained from the storage tank at the side of the building.

The theft is understood to have happened at some point overnight on Monday and chairman Paula Van Dyke is calling for people living near the school to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

She said the thieves came a very roundabout way to the tank, going through playgrounds and across the playing field, cutting their way neatly into the wire cage surrounding the oil tank.

• Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
