A MAN who had sex with an underage girl more than 30 times and assaulted another teenager has been jailed for three years.
Richard Coveney, 25, of Regent Avenue, March, began having sexual relations with the girl and giving her cannabis in August 2009, when she was 14.
The relationship did not come to light until almost a year later when the victim, now 15, told her mother who alerted police.
Cambridge Crown Court also heard Coveney had sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl, who came forward during the police investigation.
In another incident in July last year he assaulted a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy as the victims walked through March. The girl suffered a dislocated collar bone.
Coveney pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child, supplying a class B drug, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault and possession of an offensive weapon.
Jailing him on Thursday (April 27), Judge Jonathan Haworth also made Coveney the subject of a sexual offences prevention order and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register.
Detective Sergeant Amerjit Singh said: “Coveney is a dangerous man who preyed on vulnerable girls.
“This conviction and sentencing sends a clear message that crimes like this are taken extremely seriously by the police and courts.”
