THE damage caused to one of Wisbech Park’s wood sculptures has been slammed as “mindless vandalism” by the Friends of the Park.
The Friends believe the badger sculpture, which can be found near the Lynn Road entrance to the park, was beheaded at some point between Friday, July 22 and the following day.
The damage appears to have been inflicted by a heavy implement, such as a sledgehammer, and has removed the head completely.
Simon King, chairman of the Friends, said: “The loss of the badger’s head is just a mindless piece of vandalism.”
He said the Friends want to see if something can be done with the sculpture and will be contacting the chainsaw artist who made the piece to see what he can do.
The head is still missing and Mr King said if it turns up, there may be a chance it could be repaired.
• If anyone would like to make a donation towards the cost of repairing the sculpture, Mr King can be contacted through the Citizen.
