Police have detained 24 suspected illegal immigrants who were found in the back of a lorry on the A14 this morning, Wednesday December 16.
Officers were called today at 9.31am by Essex police to reports of people in the back of a refrigerated lorry on the A14.
The vehicle was located at 10am on the A14 and was pulled over into a layby on the A14 by the crematorium just before Bar Hill, on the westbound carriageway, closing two lanes and causing long delays to motorists.
22 people have been detained and are receiving medical treatment. 14 Have been taken to Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough and eight have been taken to Kings Lynn.
Two were unwell and have been taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge to receive medical treatment, taking the total number 24. It is believe that nobody is outstanding.
It is believed the passengers are all adults and Iranian and Kurdish.
There were long delays on the westbound side of the A14 due to the closure.
