STUDENTS and staff at the Cromwell Community College in Chatteris held a special Service of Remembrance today (Friday).
Principal Ged Roberts welcomed everyone and silent tribute was observed for the fallen and those serving in current conflicts.
Dr Rachael Peryer gave the background to the remembrance and the
Last Post and Reveille was sounded.
Wreaths were laid on behalf of the Wenny Road college, the Army Cadets, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets and Scouts and Guides.
The school has a remembrance board and the names are inscribed in memory of those Cromwell students who died while serving their country.
The service included time for reflection of the battlefields, personal memories and the memories of being a war-time evacuee.
Cheques were presented to Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and Afghan Heroes.
A programme prepared for the service had the special words For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon on the back:
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.”
