Customers told to boil water

RESIDENTS living in parts of Wisbech have been advised to boil their drinking water before use.

Anglian Water has issued a warning to customers, who live at the following addresses:

Blackbear Lane (no.2 – no.74 inclusive); Pendula Road (all properties); Lucombe Drive (all properties); Oaklands Drive (all properties) and Lebanon Drive (all properties)

Affected customers should now have received a letter providing the following information.

“Until further notice, and as a precautionary measure, we are advising you to boil your tap water before using it. Customers in properties outside of this area may continue to use their supply as normal. Only after tap water has been boiled and allowed to cool should it be used for drinking, preparing food or cleaning teeth. This advice also applies to drinking water for pets.

“We have taken this precautionary measure as test results have shown the tap water is not up to our usual high standards. As an additional precaution, we will also be making a small increase to the amount of chlorine in the water and carrying out some localised flushing.

“While there have been no other reported complaints or water quality issues, we would always advise that customers worried about their health should contact their GP or call NHS Direct on 0845-4647. We will provide you with a hand delivered update by October 12. Please continue to boil your water in the meantime.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, but stress that the health and safety of our customers must come first. Anglian Water is liaising with the local authority and Health Protection Agency.”
