Day to commemorate Wisbech’s most famous resident

Wisbech mayor Michael Hill will welcome visitors to the annual Octavia Hill Commemoration Day at the Trumpet Hall in the Rose and Crown Hotel at 11am.

This will be followed by the 22nd annual Octavia Hill Lecture which will be given by Margaret Willes, author of the Gardens of the Great British Working Class.

There will also be events at Octavia Hill’s Birthplace Museum, including the unveiling of a memorial to Wisbech soldier Flt Sgt Charles Cox, who was awarded the first Military Cross, at 3pm. This will be followed at 3.30pm by a celebration of the life and work of Octavia in St Peter and St Paul’s Church.

There will also be supporting events at Peckover House and Elgood’s Brewery Garden.
