March dentistry launches mobile service to keep care home residents smiling
March-based Mobile Dental Services has launched a new service to visit care homes and make it easier for their residents to see dentists in the Fenland region.
It aims to address some of the challenges currently faced in the dental sector and offer better access to dental services, especially for elderly care home patients.
At a recent launch event, the company welcomed staff from neighbouring homes and dental facilities - in person and online - who heard from keynote speakers including March’s deputy mayor, Mark Purser, and from industry experts.
They outlined their thoughts on how this service will overcome challenges currently faced in the dental sector.
The launch event coincided with World Oral Health Day; an initiative of the FDI World Dental
Federation. It is the aim of the FDI to achieve optimal oral health for everyone.
Recent statistics show this aim is far from being met in the Fenland region; with widespread inadequacies in access to
dental treatment, for a number of demographics, including elderly care-home residents.
A Mobile Dental Services company said: “Mobile services in other care and cosmetic fields are almost commonplace.
“GP services, chiropodists, opticians and even hairdressers are regular on-site fixtures in many care facilities.
“Oral health is incredibly important to overall wellbeing, and most oral disease is completely preventable with good daily oral hygiene and routine dental check-ups. Yet, the
latest figures show half the world’s population is suffering with oral disease.
“It is fast becoming
incumbent on dental professionals to respond, by mobilising their services, as other sectors have, and increase access to dental care for those who need it most. That is what we are here to do.”
Mobile Dental Services is now open for new patient registration via their website or email address.
While the mobile service is primarily reserved for care-home residents, domestic visits may also be accommodated where capacity allows.
