Diamond day for March couple

WELL-known March couple Jim and June Payne (nee Harwin) celebrated 60 years of marriage with a family get together at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel at March.

The couple also received a special card of congratulations from the Queen.

They were married at St Wendreda’s Church at March on April 21 1951.

June (81) was born and has lived in March all her life and Jim was Leicestershire born, but moved to March before marrying.

Jim (90) worked for Martin and Sons Ltd for 37 years until retirement, while June was employed as a secretary for George Richards and Sons of Benwick until marriage.

She then worked as a secretary to the assistant county council surveyor for the highways department until retirement at 65 and she received a long service award.

The couple have one son John, who is married to Denise and lives in March, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Both Jim and June enjoy gardening and June attends St Wendreda’s Church and is also a member of St Mary’s Mother’s Union.
