If there’s one thing guaranteed to ruin your Christmas meal out, it’s a nasty bout of food poisoning. So make sure the restaurant, pub or hotel you choose meets good food hygiene standards.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is a national scheme that gives all eateries and other places a rating, based on inspections carried out by Fenland District Council.
Developed by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in partnership with local authorities, it rates establishments on a scale ranging from zero (meaning “urgent improvement necessary” to five (‘very good’).
You can check the rating online at www.food.gov.uk/ratings, via a free phone app, or look for the distinctive green and black rating sticker that businesses are encouraged to display.
The free FSA app can be downloaded from Google Play (food.gov.uk/app-android) or iTunes (food.gov.uk/app-itunes).
