CHEQUES totalling more than £1,200 have been presented to the March branch of Parkinson’s UK.
The presentations were made at the group meeting on Wednesday, in March’s Braza Club.
The largest donation was from member Tony Sceal, who bravely put himself into the trained hands of a beautician to have his front and back waxed.
His courageous fundraiser amassed £866 in donations. He split the amount in half, between the March branch and research into Parkinson’s.
Warwick Hardaker presented a cheque for £100 which came from a Premium Bonds win.
Couple Christine and Jim Boudier donated £215 which came from their ruby wedding celebrations. Jim’s father, Philip, also donated £100 from a celebration.
Donations are always gratefully received by the group, which supports Parkinson’s sufferers and their families in the March area.
The money is put towards social events, such as trips and holidays. There are several planned, including a Christmas shopping day to Sheffield.
The money will also help with the branch’s Christmas party. The Braza Club is decked out for the occasion, with tablecloths and flower arrangements, and members enjoy a three-course meal. Entertainment is also put on to ensure everyone has a wonderful time.
Club organisers are also busy planning a special Olympic day, to take place in July. They are trying to find Olympic events that everyone can take part in, such as curling which can be done sitting down. If it is successful, they would like to make it an annual event.
