The Doddington Academy Kenya charity is hosting a prom and wedding dress sale to raise funds for the African school, which has been supported by Lynn Morgan and her friends for a number of years.

It provides education for 60 under 11s and is located in a remote village just north of Mombasa.

Money raised by this weekend's event, which will run from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday (10), will help fund the running costs of the school including paying the teachers' wages and providing equipment such as books and writing equipment for the children.

Lynn, who is organising the event, has been given dozens of dresses in a variety of styles and sizes by Sue Nicholls of Savvy Cinderella and the frocks will be available to buy at knock-down prices.

Many of the prom dresses, which could also be used as bridesmaids outfits, were over £200 originally, the handful or more wedding dresses were around the £1,000 mark and there are also wedding coats and flower girl dresses.

Lynn said: "We have a nice choice of dresses but they are only available in the sizes we have, but we will have a seamstress with us on Sunday who will be able to advise on whether and how the dresses can be altered. The dresses are all new , so it really is a great opportunity for people to grab a bargain and help our charity at the same time.

"We want to make an afternoon of it so we will also have hair and make-up people present as well as stalls selling jewellery, handbags and shoes and a florist to talk about wedding flowers and corsages.

"There will also be refreshments available and of course an area for changing so people can try the dresses on. It will be on a first come first served basis. All the dresses will be a least a third of the ticket price, so they will be real bargains to be had."
