It was a blank holiday as Fenland’s two most senior football sides suffered Easter Monday stalemates.

Wisbech Town had their first 0-0 result for two years, with Holbeach United in the Chromasports United Counties League Premier, while March Town United recorded their first Thurlow Nunn Division One 0-0 all season.

At the Fenland Stadium both sides had chances, both had penalty appeals turned down and both were reduced to 10 men late on (substitute Tom James for the hosts).

The Hares also had plenty of chances to win.

One of the best of them was midway through the first half when Ondre Odain shot wide after a good flick from Ash Brand off an Evans free kick.

Wisbech will feel their result was two points dropped rather than one gained as they are in a fierce battle for runners-up spot with Thurnby Nirvana, who overtook Wisbech on Monday on a single goal-difference by beating visitors Oadby Town 3-1.

Thurnby had three points deducted for playing an ineligible player against Cogenhoe United on January 6, which could yet prove to be costly.

Wisbech have another busy week. They travel to Willen Road to take on Newport Pagnell Town next Saturday. Then on Tuesday the Fenmen host Peterborough Northern Star at the Fenland Stadium.

Teams, Wisbech: Jordan, Johnson, Fairweather, Wilson, Spafford, Smith, Reid, Millson, Lunn, Ford, Beaumont. Subs: Treacher, James, Alexander.

March: Beeny, Jackman, Fiddes, Mattless, (capt), Goult, Watson, Jackson, Evans, Davey, Odain, Brand.
