A Fenland pre-school is celebrating after education inspectors said standards have improved.
Skylarks Pre-school in Tilney St Lawrence was rated as ‘satisfactory’ just over three years ago, but now Ofsted has judged it as ‘good’ in all areas.
The pre-school, which is based in the Village Hall in Magdalen Road, was visited by inspectors last month.
A report, published last week, said the quality of teaching was good, with staff providing a wide range of resources and experiences based on children’s interests and individual learning needs. As a result, children are “enthusiastic, active learners who are keen to explore and investigate”.
It also said children settle quickly as they are happy and relaxed in the “warm and welcoming environment”, and enjoy taking part in a variety of activities, including many outside to support their physical development.
Inspector Jacqui Oliver also praised the “effective” safeguarding procedures at the school, saying clear policies are implemented to ensure children are kept safe at all times.
Strong leadership and management were also highlighted in the report, with leaders sharing a clear vision for continuous improvement through “very effective self-evaluation”.
The report added: “Parents speak positively about the pre-school and report that their children are making good progress and they feel well informed.”
In order to become an ‘outstanding’ pre-school, staff have been advised to extend and further develop the already good provision for older children to continually challenge them and maximise their learning.
Ms Oliver also said the setting should further enhance management procedures to ensure that the good quality teaching continues and that information gained from peer observations is used to shape staff’s professional development in the future.
