An elderly woman has died in a house fire in Ramsey this morning.

Crews from Ramsey, Stanground and Whittlesey were called to a house fire in Star Lane, Ramsey. The caller said they believed someone was in the property at the time.

The ground floor of a two-storey semi-detached house was well alight when crews arrived.

An additional crew from Huntingdon along with a command support unit also attended.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry to the house and began searching whilst firefighting with hose reels and jets. The fire had spread to both floors of the house. Firefighters found the body of an elderly woman in a downstairs room.

The fire was extinguished by 7.50am.

A full fire investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
