THE Travel for Work partnership (TfW) today expressed its delight at Cambridgeshire County Council’s success in achieving millions of pounds of additional transport funding from the Government

The new resource, which has come from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF), will be used to promote and facilitate sustainable commuting and travel on business in the A10 and A14 corridors.

The County Council has been awarded £5m to be used on transport measures which will help reduce congestions and pollution as well as boost the local economy.

The Government grant also unlocks further funding of £4.2 million to be spent on transport improvements.

“TfW was heavily involved in the preparation of this bid and we are very pleased indeed that it has been successful,” said Mark Webb, TfW manager. “As part of the LSTF project TfW will be providing the support for businesses in the two travel corridors and we have already been speaking with businesses about the fantastic potential this extra resource will bring.”

Travel for Work has been in existence for over 14 years and is acknowledged nationally and in Europe as best practice in the workplace travel planning field. TfW membership consists of hundreds of Cambridgeshire employers, together employing over 64,000 commuters. All employer members are supported by TfW to help encourage more cycling, walking, car sharing, and taking public transport for the daily commute and for business travel.

“We know that businesses are very busy and so we provide a range of tools and incentives, such as discounts at cycle shops and on train fares, that make encouraging sustainable travel as easy as possible,” said Mark. “We know that business bottom lines always benefit from engagement with TfW, and they can also feel benefit from improving the wellbeing of their staff and reducing their impact on the environment.”

The extra funding coming to TfW as part of the Local Sustainable Transport fund will allow the partnership to recruit additional business travel plan advisers, increasing the support it is able to offer to businesses.
