Pride in Benwick

Four villagers from Benwick joined Councillor Peter Murphy this week to celebrate the formation of the latest Street Pride group.

It has been established with the help of a £500 grant from Fenland District Council. There are now 11 such groups across the district.

The Benwick group has been set up by Valerie Gobie, Tracy Phillips, Jill Hindle and Pat Cuthbert. They are currently working with the village primary school to renovate one of its gardens. Future plans include helping to improve the entrance to the playpark on the High Street by installing some flower barrels.

Cllr Murphy, FDC’s portfolio holder responsible for the environment, said: “Street Pride is a fantastic success story. All our groups make a huge contribution to keeping the district clean and tidy – they do a great job but they would all welcome new members to enable them to do even more.”

Anyone wishing to join an existing group or form a new one should call Rebecca Robinett, Street Pride coordinator at FDC, on 01354-654321 or email
