Well-known Wisbech sportsman Roy McManus and his wife Liz and their friends were treated to a tour of the Macmillan Unit at King’s Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital after presenting their latest fundraising cheque.

Roy and Liz together with Lily Bailey and Annie Proctor handed over a cheque for £530 at the hospital on Thursday.

The money was the proceeds of a fundraising event held in August at the Locomotive pub in Lynn Road, Wisbech, which followed an annual charity memorial fishing match held in memory of Roy and Liz’s son Neil and Liz’s father Tim Buller.

Roy explained the fishing match was held at Gedney Hill and was very successful and the fudnraising event afterwards, which was part of the presentation ceremony, had also been brilliantly supported.

He said the family were extremely grateful to everyone who supported the event and also to the friends who helped organise the day particularly Lily and Annie, Bernie Pennington, Tina Holmes, Denny Lee and Binny McManus.

“We get a lot of support and help from a lot of people, and we are grateful for that support,” said Roy, a former Wisbech Town footballer and manager, who provided music at the fundraiser.
