Wisbech St Mary dad and daughter are both turning seven
A Fenland family will be holding a special birthday celebration next month to mark a father and daughter becoming the same age.
Adam and Layla Donaldson from Wisbech St Mary will both turn seven in 2020 and their family is determined to celebrate the unusual landmark.
In reality Adam will 28 on February 29, but as he was born in a leap year he only gets to celebrate his actual birthday every four years - making this year his seventh.
While Layla, Adam and his partner Jessica Jefferies' eldest daughter, will really be seven on March 29.
Adam's proud mum Carol Donaldson, from Wisbech, said: "It has always been really special for Adam when he can celebrate his birthday on the day he was actually born.
"Growing up he found it hard that he couldn't celebrate his real birthday, especially when he was really little, as he didn't understand what a leap year was, and he was confused about it - Layla finds it confusing now.
"He has been featured in the Fenland Citizen before and has even been on television because of the date he was born.
"In actual fact he was not due until March 19 but he came three weeks early. I couldn't believe it when I went into labour and realised he was going to be born on February 29. I think my husband Stephen was flabbergasted, when I pointed it out to him.
"Adam arrived at 4pm after 20 hours of labour, so he was clearly determined to be a leap year baby.
"We have always celebrated his birthday in other years on March 1. Someone once asked me why we didn't celebrate on February 28 and I explained 'because he was not here then'.
"This year, when we realised that both he and Layla were going to celebrate their seventh birthdays we decided to do something a bit special. We shall be having a special 'seven' birthday cake and all the family will be around, including his older brother, Liam, who will be 30 on February 2, and was born on his granddad's birthday.
"Adam's younger daughter Ariana will be three on January 26, we had hoped she would arrive on the 29th, so we had three birthdays on the same date each a month apart, but she couldn't hold on."
