Forty-five Fenland food businesses have gained top marks for their food hygiene standards for the first time.

Each business gained the highest score of five under the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (NFHRS), which is administered locally by Fenland District Council.

Sixteen of them celebrated their success at Fenland Hall, March, where they were awarded certificates by council leader John Clark, councillor Mike Cornwell, cabinet member responsible for environmental health, and councillors David Oliver and Ralph Butcher.

Picking up certificates at the event were: Blondies Bakes, Budgens, Cake Finesse and Gomerta, all from Chatteris; Italian Ices, March Kebab and Pizza, Pork Galloway, Tennyson Lodge and Lilli’s Cakes, from March; BB Cherrybel and Tasty China, from Wisbech, plus Penelope’s Pantry, of Benwick; Pig ‘n’ Spud Roasts, of Coldham; Lilycakes Online, of Whittlesey; Fishermans Village Restaurant, of Wisbech St Mary; and The Anchor, of Wimblington.

Cllr Cornwell told them: “I have no doubt that this will be recognised by your customers and will mean a successful business as well.”
