A Fenland support group is calling for more research into a deadly lung disease which kills around 50 per cent of patients within three years of their diagnosis.

Breathe Easy Fenland is raising awareness of the lung condition Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) for this year’s IPF Week, which runs until Sunday.

Chairman Sylvia Mansfield said: “The loss of my husband some 21 years ago to this disease was the reason for my becoming involved with the Breathe Easy support groups.

“It is shocking that, despite so many people dying of IPF in the UK, still so little is known about it. This why our group believes it is so important to get behind IPF week and help the British Lung Foundation (BLF) raise awareness of this devastating disease.”

The group is inviting an active BLF campaigner to be the speaker at its next meeting, which is being held at St Peter’s Church Hall in High Street, March, at 2pm on Thursday, November 5.

The meeting is free and refreshments will be served. For more information contact Mrs Mansfield on 01354 651821.
