Leverington Friendship Club
Vice-chairperson Phyl Lynch opened the meeting and welcomed members. Vera Beeston’s birthday was celebrated.
Winner of the football was Joan Garner. Raffle winners were Angela Gregory, Vera Beeston and Joan Garner. The bingo caller was Maggie Poole and winners were Phyl Lynch, Alan Beakhouse, John Gregory, Mary Cardi, Vera Beeston and Kathleen Clarke.
Tea was served by Vera Jackson, Carol Leet and Janet Luff.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 21, at 2pm.
March branch of the Royal British Legion
There was a very good attendance at the first monthly meeting of the year. Members were upstanding for the Exhortation and silent tribute given by President Barry Howlett.
Chairman Peter Mitchell welcomed members and wished everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
Dates were confirmed for the Service of Remembrance and Band Concert to be held at St Peter’s Church on October 23 and the Poppy Dance at March Braza Club on October 16. Both are in aid of the Poppy Appeal.
It was reported the current Poppy Appeal total for March is £20,930.61. The Goody Parcel appeal continues with 1,109 parcels now sent to troops serving in Afghanistan.
Arrangements are in hand for the dedication of the new branch standard.
The next meeting will be held at March Royal British Legion Club, West End, on Tuesday, February 3, at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome.
All Saints’ Church
Vestry Hour is on Wednesday at 6.30pm in the church to arrange weddings, baptisms and banns, etc.
Services this week are 8am Holy Communion and 10.30am Morning Worship.
The next coffee morning is on Friday at 10am in the community room.
Cubs meet at St Peter’s Junior School on Wednesdays at 6.30pm term time only.
Beavers meet at the village hall on Thursdays at 6pm term time only.
Wisbech Arthritis Club
On December 10, members enjoyed their Christmas lunch at Beales Restaurant. Chairperson Mavis thanked the staff and management for an enjoyable afternoon.
The meeting on December 17 was the Christmas party held at the Rosmini Centre. The chairperson welcomed everyone and cards were exchanged.
The committee gave all members a box of chocolates and also keyrings commemorating Wisbech.
Music for the afternoon was supplied by the committee. Carols were sung.
Refreshments were served by Brenda and Diane; the tables had been decorated with Christmas tablecloths. Tea, coffee, sweets and biscuits were provided and the members all wore Christmas hats.
The raffle was organised by Janet as Freda was absent, and everyone received a raffle prize.
The chairperson and committee were thanked for all their hard work and members sent their best wishes to Norma who has gone in to hospital.
The next meeting will be on January 21, when yearly subscriptions will be due.
St Peter and St Paul’s Church
Services are: Sunday 8am Holy Communion, 10am Sung Mass. Family Mass is the fourth Sunday of every month which will include the 8am Communion service. Weekday Mass 8am Monday, Friday and Saturday, noon Wednesday, Thursday prayers for healing 9.15am, healing Mass 10am, the prayer circle is at 10am on Wednesdays. All welcome to any or all of these.
During the winter months vestry hour will be every second Wednesday, 6pm-7pm, at St Peter’s Lodge, Love Lane, to arrange weddings, baptisms and banns.
Wisbech and District Flower Club
The next meeting of the club is on Monday, January 19, at 7.30pm in St Peter’s Church Hall, Wisbech.
