FORMER Wisbech Town football legend Malcolm Devitt has died following an accident at his home in Cyprus.
Malcolm played for Bradford City between 1958-1963 appearing 100 times and scoring 13 goals before joining Wisbech Town where he holds one of highest number of caps at 246.
Malcolm ended his playing days under the player-manager, Jesse Pye, at before eventually retiring to Paphos, Cyprus, with his wife, Josephine (nee Stead) and daughter, Teresa, and her husband. Andy Freear.
It was whilst attending to some maintenance work at one of their holiday lets that Malcolm fell from a ladder and never recovered from the resultant head injury.
Besides his widow and daughter, Malcolm also leaves a son. Andrew, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Malcolm died at Nicosia Hospital, Cyprus, on Sunday (February 12), just 14 days before his 75th birthday.
Wisbech Town is hoping to put a plaque up in Malcolm’s memory and a two minutes’ silence at the next home game.
