PEOPLE have just six more days to comment on Fenland District Council’s proposed changes to Council Tax Benefit (CTB).
The public consultation on the proposals ends on October 20. The changes could result in about 4,500 people in Fenland losing an average of £3.32 a week.
They have been put forward because the Government is cutting the amount of money it gives local councils to pay for CTB by at least 10 per cent. At the same time, pensioners are being protected from any cuts.
To pay for this, all councils have to choose between cutting spending and paying less out in benefit. FDC is proposing to pay less CTB.
To get more details of the proposals and fill out an online survey, go to www.fenland.gov.uk/localcounciltaxbenefit. Paper copies of the survey are available by calling FDC on 01354 654321, e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or popping into any of the four Fenland @ your service shops.
The council has also written to all the people currently receiving the benefit.
The final CTB scheme will be decided at the full council meeting in December and any changes will take effect next April.
