March Town Council’s financial boost for good causes

Two good causes have been given a financial boost by March Town Council.

Councillors heard two applications for money from the council’s grants fund at their meeting on Monday night.

The first was from the March Conservative Bowls Club. The club had applied for financial support to help replace equipment lost in a fire on New Year’s Day.

Members heard the club was not insured and is facing a bill of thousands of pounds to replace what was lost in the arson attack.

It was pointed out that the club, which is no longer affiliated to the Conservative Club, is used by lots of local people.

Councillors agreed to a grant of £500, with Cllr Martin Field adding that some of the money could perhaps be spent on insurance for the future.

Town clerk Sarah Lemmon said: “I think they have learned their lesson, and I don’t think they will be quite so foolhardy in the future.”

The second application was from March Library, which was looking for support for its annual Summer Reading Challenge.

The council supports the popular scheme annually and it was agreed to once again give £500 towards it.
