Fire crews kept busy in March

PICTURED was the dramatic scene on March’s Station Road on Saturday evening when a police van caught fire.

The fire service was called at 7.10pm and one crew from Wisbech and one crew from Whittlesey attended.

The van was well alight when they arrived and the fire had also spread to a nearby car.

Crews used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and returned to their fire stations by 8.55pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental, believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

At 6.20pm on Saturday, two crews from March, one crew from Chatteris, and one crew from Wisbech were called to a derelict bungalow on fire on the A141 Wisbech Road in Westry.

Firefighters arrived and discovered that this was a bungalow which was well alight with flames going through the roof.

They tackled the fire using three jets and two hose reels, before returning to their fire stations by 11.20pm.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.
