First World War commemorations in Walsoken

Commemorations for the 100th anniversary of the First World War begin on Sunday in Walsoken.

At the end of the 10.30am service at All Saints’ Church, the choir will lead the congregation to the War Memorial – where the Last Post will be sounded and the Rector will lead the congregation in short prayers.

On Monday the church bells will be rung half muffled at 11am in tribute to those who served and lost their lives.

The church will also be fully floodlit on the 100th anniversary of the death of each of the Walsoken men listed on the War Memorial.

The first will be on August 29 – to mark the death of Private Thomas Bedford of the 2nd Battalion Suffolk Regt.

The Parochial Church Council is also producing a commemorative booklet.
