Food appeal

A Fenland foodbank has put out an urgent SOS for more food as demand for help increases.

Chatteris Foodbank, which has been running in the town since October last year, is currently helping an average of six families a week, but there is need for more support.

Deborah Jones, foodbank liaise officer, said: “We are limited by the food stocks we have. We are holding a food drive on Saturday (June 8) at the Co-op supermarket in Chatteris and hope people will donate items.

“We have been running since October and have already seen an increase in the need for help. It is only a temporary solution to people’s problems, but there is a real need for support from a variety of people for a variety of reasons,” she said.

There is a specific list of items neededandFoodbank members will be in store between 10.30am and 12.30pm to talk about the service and a collecting bin will be left in the supermarket for donations.
