A decaying football ground will be going under the hammer later this month.

The former Wisbech Town Football Club ground in Lerowe Road, Walsoken, has been standing empty for several years after the organisation moved down the road.

But something may finally be happening with the site as it is due to be auctioned by Savills at The Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London, on Tuesday, October 28.

The site had been earmarked for a housing development but nothing has progressed with the bid.

An application to build 83 houses comprising of 19 x four-bed houses, 35 x three-bed houses, 18 x two-bed houses, 6 x two-bed apartments and 5 x one-bed apartments and demolishing the existing football stands and buildings was granted in 2007.

But the application expired and a further application for extra time to start the development was submitted in 2012.

Fenland Park was the home of Wisbech Town Football Club from 1947 until 2008.

The club is now based at Fenland Stadium, Lynn Road, Wisbech.
