MARCH’S historic fountain celebrates its centenary this month.
The date on the Broad Street fountain is June 22, 1911. It was made to commemorate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary.
Originally a drinking fountain for animals as well as people, it no longer has its centrepiece and past attempts have been made to get the centrepiece reinstated.
The fountain underwent major refurbishment some years ago when it was dismantled and removed before being reinstated in April 2002.
