Families have helped to raise £1,736 for the Billy Lee Appeal by supporting a fun day.

More than 200 people went along to the Tower Hall in Friday Bridge.

Charlotte Davies organised the event within 10 days to support the Back On My Own Two Feet campaign.

Billy, of Wisbech St Mary, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and surgeons amputated his right leg.

His parents Spencer and Rebecca launched an appeal to raise £70,000 to buy a Helix 3D leg which is not available on the NHS. The fundraising total is almost at the halfway mark, with more than £34,000 being given so far.

Mrs Davies was “overwhelmed” with the support for the event. She said: “I am really chuffed with the total.

“The weather was not on our side on the day. I was hoping to get a few hundred pounds, so to reach £1,736 is just amazing. I did have a lot of help.”

Pony rides, provided by Fenland Equestrian Centre, along with a bouncy castle and football target game were part of the fun. Youngsters were able to try their hands at a range of crafts in a marquee.

Glitter tattoos, stalls and a big raffle, which included a Lazy Boy Recliner donated by AHF, also proved to be popular.

Studio 24/7 put on a dance show and there were appearances by Bonkers the Bear along with Anna and Elsa from Frozen.

In the crowd attending on the day was Billy’s mum, Bex. She said: “As it wasn’t our village, we did not expect it to raise that much money. It was an amazing event.

“To be at the half-way stage in three weeks is incredible and we are grateful for the support.”
