A GROUP of pensioners enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of the Neale-Wade Community College garden at a special garden party.

The school opened up its doors last Tuesday for a select group of invited guests from Shaftesbury Court Care Home in March and a local church.

The guests enjoyed cakes and sandwiches while a trio of students provided some background music.

Green student group, That Eco Thing, were then able to show off their hard work in the garden.

Group co-ordinator and Neale-Wade teacher Janice Holdich said: “The students showed off the vegetable beds and gardens they have been working on. I think a lot of the guests were keen to see what they were doing and I heard some of them offering gardening tips.”

The guests also enjoyed bingo and had a sing-song.

That Eco Thing is an extra-curricular group and is made up of students who want to make a difference to the environment and be greener. They pioneer lots of green projects around the college, such as recycling and growing vegetables.
