The awards will be presented by Councillor Sam Clark, portfolio holder for communities, and Councillor Maureen Davis, Pride in Fenland judge and ward member for Doddington and Wimblington, with the Special Judges’ Award being presented by Citizen editor Jeremy Ransome.

There were some small changes to the categories this year to allow for more nominations related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The categories are: Community group, good friend, young person in the community and the special judges award chosen by the Fenland Citizen from all the nominees.

Coun Clark said: “This year’s awards will celebrate all those who donated time, supported others and rallied communities throughout the pandemic, recognising their acts of kindness and say a big ‘thank you’ to them all. It’s thanks to these selfless Covid heroes that our district has been able to move forward during these difficult times.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted – the quality of the nominations has been outstanding! When you watch the ceremony and listen to the highlights of those nominations you will understand why I can say with some confidence that Fenland’s unsung heroes are truly amazing people and thoroughly deserve the recognition they will receive.”

Coun Davis added: “The Pride in Fenland Awards is one of the highlights of our year here in Fenland, celebrating the groups and individuals who quietly go about transforming people’s lives all year round. This year we’re thanking those that have done this despite the pandemic and contributed to making past 18 months that little bit easier for everyone.”
