ALICE Saunders is all smiles after being gifted with a new bird table and bird box by a kind Outwell man.
The Wisbech pensioner contacted the Citizen after thieves broke her bird table trying to steal it.
After seeing the story in last week’s edition, Michele Di Benedetto, who came originally from Italy, got in touch to say he would love to build Mrs Saunders a new table.
He said: “My father bred canaries and had lots of boxes and tables. He died five years ago.
“We came to Norfolk for a better life and I was so sad to see the story in the newspaper. I just thought about how the lady looks forward to seeing the birds and wanted to do something.”
Mrs Saunders is disabled and gets a lot of pleasure from watching the birds in her garden. She said when she saw the table had been broken, it moved her to tears.
The new items have been secured in her garden to deter any future thieves.
